Mailing Cards Safely

Trading card protected in a semi-rigid sleeve and packed inside a padded bubble mailer for mailing

Mailing cards is where most damage happens, but it’s also easy to avoid.

The golden rule: cards should not move freely inside the package.

A typical safe mailing setup looks like:

  • Sleeve the card

  • Place it in a top loader or semi-rigid

  • Secure it (team bag or tape tab)

  • Place in a correctly sized padded envelope or box

If the card is particularly valuable, you may want to add cardboard stiffeners to either side of the top loader. Not 100% required, but an extra layer of safety regardless.

Avoid taping directly onto sleeves. If tape is needed, use pull tabs or painters tape so the recipient can remove it safely.

For multiple cards, avoid stacking too tightly. Pressure can cause bending or surface transfer.

Always assume your package will be dropped, bent, or stacked under weight — because at some point, it probably will be.

A few extra seconds packing a card properly can save a lot of disappointment later.
